• 2016 - Nigeria
Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, sacked three commissioners from the state cabinet, the Commissioner for Tourism, Mr. Folorunsho Folarin-coker; his counterparts in Finance, Dr Mustapha Akinkunmi; and Transportation, Dr Ekundayo Mobereola, a year after they were appointed into office.
• 2016 - USA
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton squared off at the third and final debate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on topics ranging from sexual assault to social security to Russia.in one of the most extreme statements of the night, Trump said he might not accept the results of the November election, instead saying, ‘I will keep you in suspense,’ while continuing to claim the election has been rigged.
• 2016 - Egypt
American citizen, Aya Hijazi, was imprisoned without trial for 900 days. Aya, who is a dual citizen of Egypt, was arrested on May 2, 2014, along with her husband, while running a nonprofit seeking to help homeless children in Cairo. She was accused of paying the children to participate in anti-government protests.
• 2010 - USA
The United Nations (UN) said 377 people died in flooding in West Africa, since the start of this year rainy season. The highest toll was in Nigeria with 118 followed by Ghana (52), Sudan (50), Benin (43), Chad (24), Mauritania (21), Burkina Faso (16), Cameroun (13), and Gambia (12).
• 2006 - Nigeria
Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo declared a state of emergency in Ekiti, following the impeachment of Ayo Fayose for corruption.
• 2004 - Britain
Prosecutors charged radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza al-masri with incitement to murder for urging followers to kill Jews and non-muslims.
• 1992 - USA
President Bush, Democrat Bill Clinton and independent Ross Perot met in their third and final campaign debate.
• 1986 - Nigeria
Dele Giwa, journalist, who co-founded Newswatch Magazine was killed by a letter bomb in his Lagos residence.
• 1986 -Mozambique
Mozambique President Samora Machel was killed in a plane crash as he returned from a conference in Zambia.
