THE Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, has disclosed that the institution has graduated over 1,200 fully licensed medical doctors who are practicing successfully around the world.

He disclosed this at the institution’s second White Coat Ceremony of clinical medicine for the level 400 Admission Class of 2017 with no fewer than 28 medical students taking the white coat oath and garbing their ceremonial gowns.

Osaghae, who described achievement in the teaching of medicine, said the university’s medical programme has had full accreditation since inception by the relevant academic and professional bodies.

His words: “The college graduated the first batch of Medical Doctors from a private University in SubSaharan Africa in 2007 and has so far produced over 1,200 fully licensed medical doctors who are practicing in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries of the world.”

Osaghae who led principal officers of the institution’s Oba Okunnade Sijuwade College of Health Sciences including the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Professor Jacob Unuigbe and Dean, School of Clinical Medicine, Professor Lawrence Chiedozi, performed the White Coat Ceremony.

The white coat ceremony marks the students’ transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences.

Meanwhile, the Ibhadode Gifted Persons Foundation (IGPF) engaged students from selected schools in Edo State to sensitise them on the need to discover their potential, especially in the sciences and innovations.

Its Programme Officer, Lconaw Nonso, said the programme was organised to celebrate Nigeria at 57 and inculcate the spirit of nationalism on young Nigerians.

The IGPF is a brainchild of the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Efurrun in Delta State, Professor Akaehomen Okonigbon Akii Ibhadode.
