Two Years After, No Memorial For Lagos Club Owner, Akeem Shodeinde

-

SINCE his death on Sunday, May 10, 2015, flamboyant club king, Akeem Shodeinde, appears forgotten.

The most tragic is the fact that it didn’t take more than two years for the memories of the man who brought a lot of colour and style to the nightlife business to disappear. Since he was laid to rest at Ikoyi Cemetery on Friday, May 15, last year, not a single remembrance has been staged in his honour.

The powerhouse behind Extreme nightclub, Reloaded and his last exploit, Insomnia, Akeem lived life on the borderline. He partied, wined and did everything in abundance and had friends all over.

Oh yes, he gambled in abundance, partied in abundance, revelled in the attention of ladies in abundance and inhaled and exhaled in abundance and stayed true to his friends in abundance.

In all his faults, he was generous to a fault. Masking his good nature in a cloak of erratic conducts, all those close to him confirmed he was a good fella. All the club businesses he undertook were instant successes and enjoyed more than average spells, except Reloaded. Reloaded, set up with the financial muscle of footballer, Yobo Joseph, brought together power weights, such as Ahmed Uhwubetine, Akeem and others, but too much sauce spoilt the delicacy.

After two major brushes with death that took him out of commission for weeks, he lost his kidney and eventually his life. And with no tangible legacy to his name, outside of exploits as a club owner and colourful lifestyle that lured many to become club owners, his fame, memories and deeds appear buried along with him on the day he was laid to rest.
