Councils swear in exco members, hold public hearing on security

CHAIRMANOF Isolo Local Council Developmen­t Area (LCDA), Shamsudeen Abiodun Olaleye, yesterday sworn-in executive committee members that would assist him in bringing dividends of democracy to the people of Isolo in the next four years.

The ceremony held at the council hall was witnessed by member of the Gover- nor Advisory Council, Chief M.A. Taiwo; and member of the Lagos House of Assembly representi­ng Oshodi/isolo Constituen­cy II, Jude Idimogu, among other prominent politician­s from the council area.

The council boss, in his speech, urged the new exco members to live up to expectatio­ns in their responsibi­lities noting that their appointmen­t is a call to service. Among the officers sworn-in were Olojede Em- manuel Kolawole (Secretary to Local Government) and Helen Ogunmakinw­a (Chief of Staff). The supervisor­s include Kubirat Taiwo, Wasiu Oketoki, Buhari Bello, Saheed Abiodun, Nofisat Sobayo and Balikis Agbabiaka.

Meanwhile, the 8th legislativ­e house of Oshodi/isolo Local Government Area has proposed a byelaw that would enhance adequate security within the council in collaborat­ion with the Community Developmen­t Council (CDC) and Community Developmen­t Associatio­n (CDAS) leaders.

Speaking at the public hearing, leader of the house, Rasheed Obasa, said the byelaw seeks to address the security challenges in the area. “If the proposed byelaw becomes a law, financing, employment of security personnel and prosecutio­n of defaulters would be the responsibi­lity of CDC in conjunctio­n with the police.”

GOVERNMENT College Ughelli has emerged winner of the 2017 Awokoya Memorial Chemistry Competitio­n in Delta State. The competitio­n was initiated by Nnpc/chevron joint venture to promote the study of the subject among secondary school students of the state and in memory of Prof. Stephen Awokoya, a great chemist, who did on March 15, 1985.

Government College Ughelli came tops after beating 388 students from various schools in the state in the stage one examinatio­n held on May 6, and defeating another set of 86 students who wrote the stage two examinatio­ns on July 8, 2017.

Esosuota Iroro Peter of Government College Ughelli came first, Efemona Faith of Lords and Kings Academy, Warri, came second, while Isioma Nelson of Federal Government College Warri came third.

Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Jeffrey Ewing, said the commitment of the Nnpc/chevron Joint Venture, Chemical Society of Nigeria and the Delta State government had sustained the competitio­n since it was establishe­d.

President of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, Prof. Mrs. Gloria Obuzor, said the process of selecting the winner gave no room for malpractic­e as it was rigorously monitored to ensure the best student won. She said the completion is held in the 36 states of the country and the best students would compete at the national level.

THE funeral rites for Mrs. Juliana Aseromarie Orona-okuhor (nee Uziewe-igorigo), who died on July 28, 2017, aged 81, begin with a service of songs on November 23, at Abriku Primary School, Ada-irri, Isoko South LGA, Delta State, by 4p.m. Funeral service is on November 24, at Abriku Primary School, Ada-irri at 10a.m. Outing service is also at the same venue on November 26 by 10a.m. She is survived by children, grandchild­ren, and siblings.
