THE World Health Organisation (WHO) yesterday scored the performance of Kano State Government on Routine Immunisation (RI) against polio and other diseases related vaccination below 40%.

WHO assessment came when records from the state ministry of health for the update of first quarter of 2018 RI on Polio indicated 61 percent of the targeted children were not captured.

Besides the WHO immunization assessment, the Organisation donated 72 motorcycles and 45 mobile phones worth millions of naira to the Kano State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers as part of proactive measures to enhance surveillance activities against outbreak of diseases across the 44 local government areas of the State.

Addressing journalists in Kano, WHO country repre- sentative in Nigeria, Dr. Wondimagegnehu Alemu told journalists that though the State RI performance from administrative data shows about 80 percent performance rate, he contested that evidence based survey clearly indicated just 15% performance. Alemu urged the government to address the low performance of vaccination as a matter of urgency. Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who applauded the support of WHO hinted that government allocation of 13 percent of 2018 budget to the health sector was deliberate measure to improving quality health care services.

Meanwhile, worried by the increasing level of genderbased violence across the country, Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo yesterday inaugurated the Northwest zone of response team to curb the menace.
