ASPMAN Partners Lagos Safety Commission To Improve Spa Standards
IN ORDER TO sanitize the beauty industry as well as ensure that members adhere to safety standards, the Association of Practitioners of Spa and Medical Aesthetics of Nigeria (APSMAN) has partnered with the Lagos State Safety Commission to bring ethics and principles to the industry.
This was the thrust at its maiden symposium organised recently in Ikeja, titled: “Professionalism in the beauty Industry” which gathered beauty practitioners in Lagos.
President of the Association of Practitioners of Spa and Medical Aesthetics of Nigeria (APSMAN), Dr.
Felix Avajah, noted that the beauty industry in Nigeria has come of age and they are saying no more quackery and all the damage that happen alongside. “We are working with the Lagos Safety Commission and the Lagos State
College of Health to bring in professionalism. We are also trying to educate spa owners and salons who may carry out their activities on their own terms to know that beauty has to be done by certain standards.”
According to the Director General Lagos Safety Commission, Mr. Hakeem Dickson, “We have decided to partner with the industry to ensure that the health and safety of everyone, both workers and clients, are protected including the facilities used in carrying out their services. We will also audit them to make sure that they meet standard practice all over the world. When the standards and regulations are fully put in place, we will go to the National Assembly where it becomes a law. We will only liaise with the beauty industry through its association.”
Director, Compliance and enforcement, LSC Mrs. Aderonke Odeneye said that it is important to develop a culture of safety and maintain it. “We will come up with safety standards for the beauty industry and I know that when we get it right in Lagos other states will follow.”
The Provost, Lagos State College of Health, Dr. Moyo Kasim, noted that they are a mono-technique focused in trainings and is partnering with ASP- MAN to ensure that members acquire the right knowledge to carrying out beauty regimes.
Chief Executive Officer, Freshlook Day spa, Mrs. Toyin Collins, added that the association will sensitise and set standards in the industry while ensuring that members are educated and are aware of its governing body and receive support from others when necessary.
