Herdsmen Kill Couple, Two Others In Taraba Community

Aday after Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, raised the alarm over a plan to attack the state, four persons among whom are a couple, have been reportedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the state. The herdsmen, who stormed the area in their numbers, carried out the yesterday in Ngutswan village, Gassol Council of the state. A visit to the village yesterday showed that the people have been leaving the community due to the absence of security operatives to safe guard their lives and property. Theguardian observed that the people hurriedly buried the victims, saying they had to do so in order to move out of the village, so as to avoid further attacks by the herdsmen. Some persons in the community who spoke to our reporter felt sad that security operatives have made no attempts to deploy their men to the area that has being prone to herdsmen attacks. Narrating how the village was invaded by the herdsmen a youth in the village, Simeon Tsawua, said the genesis of the attack could be linked to recent disappearance of their yams, which he alleged, was stolen by the cattle breeders. Stating how they were caught and made to paid fines for the yams they stole, the community went to bed with their two eyes closed, unknown to them that the herdsmen would strike. Others who reacted to the incident, including the chairman, Tiv Cultural Association, Zachari Tehare, wondered why the Federal Government has continued to show a lukewarm attitude towards the security of the lives and property of the people of Taraba State. The people who could not understand why security operatives have not deemed it fit to deploy their officers to the scene, urged the president to, as a matter of urgency, call the Fulani herdsmen to order.
