FUTA alumni donate 300-capacity lecture theatre to alma mater

THE Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Graduating Class of 2001 has donated a multi-purpose 300-capacity lecture theatre to the university, tasking the students and management on good maintenance culture.

President of the association, Mr. Femi Oshinlaja, at the commissioning of the small lecture theatre renovation project worth over N6 million, said the alumni members came together 13 months ago and deemed it appropriate to give back to the school by renovating the building, which was built in 1989.

He said the furniture, writing board, audio-visuals, toilets and other stateof-the-arts facilities were put in place to boost the academic and social activities of the students. “We see this project as a start to other greater projects and look forward to working together with the management to ensure the university is enlisted among the best five univer- sities in the country.”

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Adeola Fuwape, lauded the alumni members, revealing that the 2001 Class was the first set to donate such huge project to the institution. “When that building was erected, I don’t think we spent that much. This will encourage others to give back to the institution that had nurtured them.”

The Student Union Government (SUG) president, Mr. Olasehinde Adeyinka Williams, said the project was a landslide achievement to his tenure as a union leader.
