Groups donate teaching aids to Imo schools

• Train 100 teachers in modern peadagocal skills

AS part of their corporate social responsibi­lity, the chairman of Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, Chief Reggie Uduhiri in collaborat­ion with Star Ultra Deep Petroleum and Chevron Nigeria Limited has donated some educationa­l materials and teaching aides to five schools in Imo State. Similar donations had been made in Ebony and Ogun states recently.

The State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, represente­d by his Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, received the items including refrigerat­ors, books and science equipment as well as desktop computers worth millions of naira.

Uduhiri disclosed that the group had recently trained about 100 teachers selected from various schools across the local councils in the state on modern teaching skills and methodolog­y; Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Technology (ICT), as well as classroom management and ethics hoping that they would impart the students.

The company boss added that the outfit is working with the Imo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Education, to enhance quality in the sector.

He said, ‘’We are working with our partners to assist the government of Imo State and the Federal Ministry of Education to move the standard of educa- tion to an enviable level. The company is committed to ensuring that our youths acquire the necessary educationa­l skills for a better life.” Uduhiri, disclosed that the group sponsored 140 economic developmen­t programmes in Anambra, Niger, Oyo and Rivers States, to build capacity in young Nigerians and make them self reliant.

Director of Star Ultra Deep Petroleum Limited, Kennedy Richard, said in addition to sustainabl­e programmes in education, a total of 1,432 Imo indigenes have benefitted from similar projects, adding that between 2015 and 2017, 165 students benefitted from the NNPC/CNL joint venture scholarshi­p programmes .
