Olubadan commends Ajimobi’s achiements

- From Muyiwa Adeyemi (Head, South West, Bureau Ibadan)

OYO State House of Assembly yesterday passed the 2018 appropriation bill of N271.731 billion.

The passage followed the adoption of the report and recommendations of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation, headed by Mrs. Bolanle Agbaje.

The House, presided over by the Speaker, Michael Adeyemo, unanimously gave consent to the passage of the bill.

The House approved N119.631billion as the total recurrent expenditure, and N149. 941.00 billion for capital expenditure for 2018.

The speaker commended members of the committee for what he described as a “thorough scrutiny of the budget” within a short time frame.

He implored the executive arm of government to look into giving it quick assent. Adeyemo further urged the executive arm to work in line with the findings of the lawmakers to achieve a good budget performance for the year.

He assured residents of the state that their interests had been adequately represented in the appropriation.

Meanwhile, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, yesterday said he would have recommended Governor Abiola Ajimobi for a third term, if the constitution of Nigeria would per- mit it.

The monarch, who had been at a loggerhead with the governor over the review of Olubadan declaration, commended Ajimobi for what he described as his “unprecedented achievements” in the state.

Olubadan spoke at the meeting of all traditional rulers, which was facilitated by the governor to highlight his achievements.

The Olubadan said: “This work that God has given to you, impossibility shall not be your portion. The extent to which you have done it, the merciful God will use it to honour you. Those of us speaking Yoruba language, don’t appreciate ourselves, we only abuse one another.

“But I want all of us to believe in God, who created us and also put in mind all what the governor has been doing since he has been in power.

“The administration’s efforts in taking Oyo State to another level in all strata of development is seen by all. If it were to be possible, I would have recommended him for a third term.”

Other monarchs who attended at the event were the Soun of Ogbomoso who was represented by the AareAgo of Ogbomosoland, Sobalaje Otolorin, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Abd-ganiy Adekunle Oloogunebi, Eleruwa of Eruwa, Samuel Adebayo Adegbola, and Onpetu of Ijeru Sunday Oladapo Oyediran.
