Leader of the most dreaded kidnap gang in the country, Henry Chibueze, popularly called Vampire, was killed during a gun battle between his gang and operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team in Omu Awa Forest, Ikwerre Local Council of Rivers State.

• 2016 - Nigeria

14-year-old Ese Rita, Delta State-born girl, resident in Bayelsa, who was abducted by Yunusa Dahiru, alias Yellow, but rescued by the police in Kano, was discovered to be five months pregnant. • Another 14-year-old Benue girl, Patience Paul, was abducted in Sokoto. Relatives alleged that the primary six pupil was housed at the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto.

At Hollywood Academy Awards, 12 Years a Slave, won the Best Picture Oscar. Actress Lupita Nyong'o of Kenya won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the movie.
