- By Isaac Taiwo

THE General Secretary,

Bible Society of Nigeria, Dr. Dare Ajiboye has enjoined Christians to make voluntary donations, as a means of propagating the gospel, so that the underprivileged could have access to the Bible. He said BSN had donated assorted Bibles worth over N20m in 2017 and after. He said: “Breakdown of the figure shows that a total of 11,933 copies of assorted Bibles, given to the sighted were worth N11, 540, 950, while 201 complete sets of Braille Bible given to people with visual disability cost N8, 844, 000.

“In 2016, the organisation also donated Scriptures worth N17.1m. This gesture is in line with its mission to meet the scriptural needs of Nigerians and help people interact with the Word of God. Beneficiaries of this gesture included the prisons, Christian Fellowships and organisations, the Nigeria Police, schools for the blind, and members of the public, among others.”

Ajiboye explained that after donation of two complete sets of Braille Bible to two schools of students with visual disability in 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the organisation commenced donation of Braille Bible to individuals in the public and braille-literate students of schools for people with visual disability for personal use. “The organisation is able to pursue this free distribution programme with funds donated by members of Bible-a-month Club, special members, corporate bodies, churches and individual donors.

“The Bible Society of Nigeria is a not-for-profit-making interdenominational Christian organisation, which translates the Bible into local languages, publishes, distributes and raises funds for the Bible work. So far, we have complete Bible in 24 Nigerian languages, while Bible translation/revision is ongoing in over seven Nigerian Languages at a minimum cost of N40m per language,” he said.
