Caleb School Holds Interhouse Sports Competition

-

THE second annual interhouse sports competition, which held at the beautiful stadium of Caleb British International School Abijo, Lekki, Lagos did not only promote sportsmanship among the students, but also offered an opportunity for parents, guests and lovers of sports to witness such spectacular athletic performances as march past, relay races and sack race, among others. The school band was on ground to spice and add glamour all through the exciting event.

The head of School, Mr. Graham Meredith, said though the fundamental objective of the school is robust academic leanings, but sport is also an integral part of the overall grooming of the children to prepare them for the future. He said: “At Caleb, we have world class sports facilities, as we consider sporting activities an integral part of their education, which shouldn’t target just the mind. Education is also about the body and brain. It is only when all the different aspects have been well trained that you can have a total child.” He described the students’ performance as amazing. He was particularly happy that the event served as a forum for the students, parents, school management and well-wishers to interact.

The principal, Mrs. Linda Olumese, said the school combines both co-curricular and extra curricular activities.

She said: “For instance, if you are teaching mathematics, you can bring in sports by joggling. And when you are joggling, you are learning your tables. We are committed to making a total child at Caleb British International School.” Expressing delight, chairman of the Day, Commodore Abayomi Lawal said he was impressed with the students’ performance. He urged parents to encourage their children to take on sporting activities. “No matter how brilliant in academics a child is, he/she needs activities like these to improve overall,” he said.

At the end of the competition, Yellow House came first with 17 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals, followed by Red House, which won 12 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze medals, while Green House came third with 10 gold, eight silver and 11 bronze medals. Blue House was last with nine gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze medals.
