Ecuadorian Embassy, Foundation To Train Women On ICT

ELBATIVENI Foundation, with support from the Embassy of Ecuador, has offered a free six-month training on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to 20 ladies. In an interview with The Guardian, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elbativeni Foundation, Destiny Ruth Obiakoeze, said the programme tagged: ‘Project Loop Her’, was designed to empower women by getting them acquainted with the world of ICT, make them stand out independently, and bridge the poverty gap through digital marketing and technology.

Obiakoeze disclosed that the embassy funded some of the participants and provided facilities for easy learning.

According to the CEO, through the acquired knowledge, the participants would be able to impact positively on the next generation and affect the economy.

Obiakoeze called on the Federal Government, agencies and international bodies to back the programme.

Speaking during a visit to the ICT classroom in Abuja, the Ambassador of Ecuador to Nigeria, Leopold Rovayo, urged the participants to utilise the opportunity to reinvent themselves and become useful to their families and the society.

He said: “We found this foundation and I found out that they are reliable, so we began to talk about the support of their youth empowerment summit in October last year. But I should say that unfortunately, a lot of people that have come to the embassy to propose a lot of things have disappeared. I searched them a bit. They are not reliable. At the end of the day, we try because we are small. We don’t have too many resources. But we try to find out reliable people to work with.”
