Cleric Seeks Media Support To Fight Religious Rot

Advocates Better Welfare Package For Journalists

- From Oluwaseun Akingboye, Akure.

FOUNDER of Success Gate Cherubim and Seraphim Christ’s Church International, Ibode Aseyori, Primate Ade AdemisokunTurton has urged media practitioners to assist in the move to sanitise

Christianity. Ademisokun-turton said this while receiving Ondo State Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by the chairman, Mr. James Sowole.

He lamented that there is “blanket condemnation” by the public against some denominations, especially white garment churches, claiming that there are still a number of such churches that maintain high spirituality and credibility.

He said there was an ongoing reform to sanitise the Cherubim and Seraphim order in the country.

The cleric underscored the importance of investigative journalism to expose ungodly religious centres and clerics in the interest of unsuspecting members of the public, who are usually duped for fake miracles.

On the welfare of media practitioners in the country, he urged federal and state governments, as well as private bodies to establish welfare packages that will improve living standard of media professionals, in view of their important constitutional role in nation building.

Primate AdemisokunTurton, who expressed displeasure over poor treatment of journalists by most media owners, especially government, also advocated improved salaries and reliable insurance schemes for media workers.

He said such packages would further encourage journalists to be independ- ent and objective in their reportage, as it would also keep political class on their toes, so as to be accountable and responsive to the masses.

The founder said the church would continue to intensify prayers for the union’s safety nationwide, adding that journalists require fervent prayers, particularly ahead of 2019 general elections.

The state NUJ Chairman, Sowole, said religious leaders should caution political class against maladministration that could further impoverish the masses.
