- By Sulaimon Salau

AN erudite Islamic scholar and Imam, Al-ameen Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulrazak Hassan has urged the youth to shun all forms of immoral dressing that has contributed to decadence in the society.

Hassan, who spoke at the yearly Ramadan lecture, in Mushin, Lagos, said the Muslims and non-muslims should always ensure that their dress style is in consonance with the culture, religion and ethics of the society.

He enjoined parents to be a good role model to the children and ensure that they are strictly monitored to enshrine decency in their mode of dressing. According to him, the way you dress is the way you appear, and appearance speaks louder on the personality of such individual, hence the need to look decent always in other to attract favour and respect.

Noting that peer group has a major role to play in lifestyle and dress code of the youth, he advised that Muslims youths should choose responsible friends that would guide them to the right path.

“We should always give consideration to the religious and culture of the society before choosing out style of dressing. It must also give you comfort and look appealing to others. Students of higher institution of learning have in recent past misused the liberty of dressing and now many of the universities are issuing dress code in other to guide the students on decent mode of dressing. Sometimes, they feel it’s infringing on their right, but rather it is part of the moral training they should undergo,” he said.

Hassan said, particularly in this month of Ramadan, decency should be the priority while men should also lower their gaze.

He enjoined Muslims to make good use of the holy month Ramadan to pray fervently to Allah, urging those that have been unrighteous due to ignorance to revert to Islam with full commitment to the directives of Almighty Allah.
