Ambode: Nigeria Needs Prayer To Revitalise Economy, National Life

- By Chris Irekamba

THE governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode has asked the body of Christ in the state not to relent in efforts to pray for the state and Nigeria, as this is what is needed at a time like this to help revitalise the economy and all aspects of national life. Ambode, who spoke through his Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Oluseye Oladejo last Sunday at the First Session of the Seventh Synod of the Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, commended the church for prayers and choice of the theme: “Myhelpcomes Fromthelord.”

He said: “It gladdens my heart to identify with the Bishop and members of the Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion at this seventh synod. This year’s synod, no doubt, presents us another opportunity to give thanks, glory and adoration to God for the grace and goodness we have been enjoying in the past years. I want to specially appreciate my Lordship Rt. Rev Dr. James Olusola Odedeji, the bishop and spiritual father of the diocese and the way he has yielded himself to the will of God in guiding and praying for God’s children, as well as his selfless service in ensuring that this year’s synod is successfully convened.”

While calling on Christians to always depend on God and seek divine help, Ambode noted: “I believe this theme is divinely inspired and has come at a perfect time we are faced with challenges as individuals and as a nation. As believers, we must never lose hope but remain faithful in our conviction that nothing is beyond the power of Almighty God.”

In his address, the Bishop of Lagos West, Rt. Rev. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji said: “Just like yesterday, it is now more than five years that we were elected, consecrated and enthroned as the sec- ond Bishop of our Diocese. We return all honour, glory, adoration and majesty to our God, Who has not only been our pillar of support, but has also helped us through thick and thin, to sustain a rising profile of our dear Diocese.” He commended Governor Ambode for the good work he is doing in the state and prayed that God would help him to do more for Lagosians.

Speaking on the theme of the Synod: “Myhelp Comesfromlord,” the Bishop said man’s help can only come from God and not from his connection, godfatherism, education, charm or occultism. He reminded Christians that no matter what they are passing through today, they should know that Christ also passed through same thing and as such, He is able to help those who trust in Him and obey His commandments.
