Children’s Day: Ogun Pledges To Enhance Child Development

- By Gbenga Akinfenwa

OGunstate government said it is commited to putting in place policies and programmes that will ensure the development of children in the state, irrespective of their location, gender and religion.

The state Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga, said this, yesterday, at a Children’s Day programme by Abundantly Live Empowerment Initiative (ALEI) held at Ajalorun’s Palace, Ijebu-ife, Ogun State, adding that society cannot thrive without children, which is why government at all levels are putting in place enduring policies concerning them and their future.

She noted that recent developments around the world have shown that government alone cannot provide for the people’s needs. “Hence, the assistance and cooperation of well-meaning individuals and organisations are required to ensure an enabling environment for the all-round development of our children,” she said. Assuring that the state under the leadership of Senator Ibikunle Amosun remains committed to child-friendly policies, she said the state is not leaving any stone unturned in creating an enabling environment for their educational development.

In her speech, founder, ALEI, Dr. Ama Onyerinma said the event was meant to take its message beyond Lagos to children in rural areas and small towns because they also have the right to be educated and to be informed about social issues and programmes.

She called on states yet to adopt the Child Right Act to do so.
