Aregbesola seeks quality education, parental guidance for children
They’re beacons of future hope, says Okorocha
OSUN State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has canvassed quality education and parental guidance for children.
He made the call at the weekend, during a children march and calisthenics display to mark the 2018 National Children’s Day.
The theme of the event was: “Creating safe spaces for our children: “Our collective responsibility.” Aregbesola said his administration has committed enormous funds to promote functional education in the state, adding that failure to do so would spell doom for the society.
He stressed that only the educated and skilled individuals would survive the future challenges in the country.
Aregbesola who held that children deserve to be celebrated on a daily basis, said basic education is important for children.
According to him: “The future we are heading to is one that would require only the educated and highly skilled individual to survive in. It is a future where things may be difficult for the unskilled.
He explained that low skills and menial jobs would be eliminated in the next 50 years, making only the educated and skilled individuals to be relevant.
The Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Latifat Giwa, urged stakeholders involved in children upbringing to rise up to the onerous task of nurturing them on the right path.
Meanwhile, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has described children as the beacons of future hope.
He made the expression in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, to mark the children day, and advised against playing with their destinies to avoid a bleak future.
Okorocha urged parents and guardians to do the needful by bringing up children in a desirable manner.
He said: “Children are the hope and future of every family, state, nation, and indeed the society. They should therefore be given all the attention that they deserve.”
According to him, what the present leaders are unable to achieve, the children of today are capable of doing so in future, especially if they are encouraged. He added that without children, nobody could talk about the hope and future of any society or setting. “Whatever the older generation could not achieve or do, children as the future generation are capable of taking the bull by the horn. And that future or hope lies with the children.”
Okorocha urged relevant institutions to use the occasion to float programmes that would uplift children in the country.
