Okorocha tasks Nigerians on nation building

- From Charles Ogugbuaja, Owerri

GOVERNOR Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has enjoined Nigerians, especially the political class, to contribute to nation building and eschew acts that could endanger the nation’s democratic dispensation

In a statement yesterday by his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, to mark Nigeria’s 19th democratic anniversary in Owerri, the governor advised the citizenry to play politics without bitterness.

He advocated for a democratic rule where peace and unity were paramount.

The statement reads in part: “Governor Okorocha said for Nigeria to have remained under a democratic rule for 19 years uninterrupted in spite of all the challenges confronting her as a multi-ethnic nation calls for celebration and sober reflection.

“Nigerians at this stage should also grow beyond ethnic politics to help our democracy grow faster. “Democracy in Nigeria has come to stay and what is expected in the circumstance is for all hands to be on deck so that we can build a democratic nation of our collective dream and aspiration where peace and unity abound.”

Okorocha beseeched Nigerians to offer prayers for the leadership of the country in order to usher in a transformed nation.

The spokesman continued: “Nigerians should leverage on the opportunity offered by the 2018 Democracy Day to pray for the leadership of the nation at all levels, and also pray that the good effort of President Muhammadu Buhari to transform the nation and rid her of corruption should produce the needed result. “The governor asked the good Lord to bless Imo people in particular and Nigerians in general on this momentous period of Nigeria’s 2018 Democracy Day celebration,” he concluded.
