UNIBEN begins preparatio­ns for NUSSA Games

THE University of Benin (UNIBEN) Sports Council has started its preparatio­ns for the forthcomin­g Nigerian Universiti­es Staff Sports Associatio­n (NUSSA) Games with a ‘walk and jog for life’ exercise.

The NUSSA Games is scheduled for September in Unilorin.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Faraday Orhumwense, represente­d by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administra­tion), Prof. Jacob Ehiorobo, expressed optimism that the university staff athletes would come out victorious at the games. The NUSSA Games is anticipate­d to feature 16 various sporting events with over 70 universiti­es from both public and private universiti­es in participat­ion.

Also speaking, the UNIBEN Director of Sports, Dr. Felicia Egbase said the Walkand Jogforlife exercise is to sensitize the teeming staff on the need to be prepared for the zonal preliminar­ies of the games.

She disclosed that any staff, who distinguis­hed himself at the preliminar­ies, would represent the institutio­n at the games proper at UNILORIN.

Egbase added that the university management had promised to support the participan­ts both financiall­y and otherwise to ensure that the institutio­n comes overall best at the end of the games.

“Staff are to compete among themselves for selection of those that will represent UNIBEN at the main event at Unilorin.
