Monarch’s widow urges Lagos to take over husband’s property

Twidow of Oba Salaudeen Afolabi Oyefusi, Olori Muyibat Oyefusi, has urged the Lagos State government to take over the Royal Castle along Oba Oyefusi Avenue, Lowa, Ikorodu, in fulfillment of the promise made by the late traditional ruler to donate it for the use of the people.

According to her, the late monarch promised the government before his death to lease the building to the government for the purpose of turning it into a library, museum and a cinema for the use of Ikorodu people.

She made the call at a briefing to herald the memorial lecture for the late monarch slated for Saturday. She said: “During the administration of governor Bola Tinubu, my late husband visited the governor, asking him to take over his royal castle after his death and turn it to a library, museum and a cinema for the people of Ikorodu because the community lacks those facilities.

“He made the same visit during the tenure of governor Babatunde Fashola, asking him to do the same after his demise. But since his death, nothing has been done concerning his intent to have this castle turned to his wish.”

Chairman of the memorial lecture, Otunba Abdul Rafiu Adewale, said in memory of the late king, the family has organized three annual Ramadan lecture, adding that the foundation would establish a cemetery for Muslims, Christians and others, besides the library, museum, cinema house, recreation center, and reception hall in his name.
