Danfo driver’s daughter emerges 2018 Lagos One-day Governor

A14-year-old daughter of a commercial bus driver in Lagos, Miss Gloria Ajala, yesterday, emerged as the 2018 One-day Governor for Lagos State. She is a secondary school 3 student of Lafiaji Senior High School, Lagos Island and she would perform the pseudo-role of the governor at a yet-to-be announced date before the end of this year alongside her cabinet members.

Gloria, whose mother is a petty trader, earned the honour as winner of this year’s edition of Spelling Bee Competitio­n organised by the state ministry of education among public secondary school students in the state. She defeated 56 others from across the six education districts, including Grace Ikhariale from Tin Can Island Senior High School, Tolu Ajeromi who came second and Oluwatosin Akinbodewa from Iworo Ajido Senior Secondary School, Olorunda LCDA, who came third from the pack that made it to the finals held yesterday at Alausa Secretaria­t with the deputy governor, Dr Idiat Adebule and the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye, among other top government functionar­ies, in attendance.

A total of 17 One-day governors have been produced in the history of the competitio­n, which was initiated by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, when her husband was the governor. Grace would enjoy a full scholarshi­p to study in the university of her choice and would also attend a short course exchange programme in Finland.
