Embattled ex-chairman of the Presidenti­al Task Force on Pension, Abdulrashe­ed Maina, finally broke his silence on the pension fraud that took place when he was in charge of the task force four years ago, alleging that he is being subjected to persecutio­n and media trail because he stopped pension thieves from stealing N5.32 billion monthly from the office of the Head of Service and Police Pension office alone before the advent of the Pension Transition­al Directorat­e (PTAD).

Metrojet Flight 9268 was bombed over the Sinai Peninsula, killing all 224 people on board.

• 2014 - Sierra Leone

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said Ebola wiped out whole villages in Sierra Leone and may have caused many more deaths than the nearly 5,000 official global toll.

• 2014 - Nigeria

In a new video Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram leader, said over 200 Chibok schoolgirl­s have all been converted to Islam and married off. He also denied there was a ceasefire with the government.

• 2013 - Nigeria

Dozens of Boko Haram gunmen riding on motorcycle­s and in pickup trucks stormed Bama town in Borno State, killing 27 people and razing some 300 homes.

The United Nations (UN) marked the world population reaching seven billion amid fears of how the planet will cope.

• 2010-Cote d’ivoire

Ivory Coast held a presidenti­al election. Laurent Gbagbo won 38% followed by 32% for Alassane Ouattara, the main opposition leader. Former Pres. Henri Konan Bedie came in third with 25% and later endorsed Ouattara in a run-off, set for Nov 28.

Dilma Rousseff (62),was elected president over rival Jose Serra, the first woman to direct Latin America's biggest nation.

• 2007 - Nigeria

A navy officer was killed and four naval personnel injured in an overnight attack on a vessel protecting a Shell oilfield.

• 2001 - Pakistan

Pres. Musharraf ordered the arrest of anyone using a mosque loudspeake­r for anything other than the traditiona­l call to prayer. He also banned the use of mosques to "spread sectarian hatred."
