"We have not sacked our coach," says Rangers management

- From Lawrence Njoku, Enugu

CONTRARY to media reports that the management of Rangers International FC of Enugu, has shown the club's Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, the exit door, its General Manager, Davison Owumi, said yesterday that there was no truths in the rumour.

Rather, the 2018 AITEO Cup winners said that the state government had renewed Ogunbote's contract for another one year.

Owumi, who disclosed this to journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu, added: "to the best of my knowledge, I have not heard of the coach's contract termination.

"In fact, His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has graciously given the nod for renewal of his contract after consultation.

"The Technical Adviser (Ogunbote) has his contact renewed for one more year; the summary is that the contract has been roll on for another one year.

"We are not putting anybody to task, but we know that the purpose of playing football is to win trophy. Rangers are doing well, and we want to maintain the stride."

Owumi, who is an exRangers player, said that the team would be beefed up in areas where the need arises in view of the continental league.

"While beefing up, we are not going to destroy the fabric, which was the bedrock of our success this year,” he stated. Owumi added that consultations had taken off in earnest over the challenges of the Continental league.

"All these were geared towards ensuring successful outing and putting up proper budget for the execution of the continental and local matches next season,'' Owumi stated.
