THE Nigerian Army has recovered the body of the missing General Idris Alkali from an abandoned well in Guchwet, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Garrison Commander, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Umar Mohammed, disclosed this yesterday in Jos.

Alkali, who was former Chief of Administration, Army Headquarters, Abuja, was declared missing on his way to Bauchi after leaving Abuja on September 3, 2018.

Chief of Army Staff ( COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, set up an operation to search for him. The army explained that after a thorough search and investigation, they narrowed their search down to a mining pond in Dura-du in Jos South Local Council

After two weeks of draining the pond, Alkali’s car, two other cars and a Toyota bus were recovered from the pond.

Mohammed said that they were led to the well by one of those suspects earlier arrested in connection with the crime, adding that the operation was jointly carried out in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police and Fire Service.

Umar said that with the recovery of the body, they were left with one task to ensure that those declared wanted in connection with the crime were brought to book.

“The COAS gave us three terms of reference, to get the missing senior officer dead or alive, to recover his car and ensure that those who committed the crime were punished.’’
