Road mishap kills 10, injures 14 in Makurdi, Enugu

ONE person was killed with two others severely injured in a motor accident that occurred at Heavy Duty Park, North Bank in Makurdi, Benue State capital yesterday morning.

A truck with registrati­on number YDP 697 XA, loaded with beans was traveling towards Makurdi when it fell off the road and its consignmen­t trapped the victims.

Aondowase Nyitamen, a primary two pupil at LGEA Primary School, Low Cost, North Bank, lost his life in the accident, while his mother, Mlumun Nyitamen and one other primary three pupil of the same school, Queen Torkuma, sustained various degrees of injuries.

It was gathered that the accident occurred when an unregister­ed tanker allegedly overtook the truck and forced it off the road, running into a ditch before the truck summersaul­ted.

A Lexus 300 with registrati­on number VDY 562 AA, which was parked at the scene of the incident, was also badly damaged. The Special Assistant to the Benue State governor on Media, Mr. Geoffrey Jimin, who was on his way to drop his children in school, rushed the injured persons to the emergency unit of the Federal Medical Center, Makurdi where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Meanwhile, another auto crash, which occurred along the Enugu–port Harcourt Expressway, has left nine persons dead and 12 critically injured. The accident occurred at Ihe axis of Awgu local government area at about 8:00p.m. on Sunday.

According to the Enugu State Police Command spokesman, Superinten­dent Ebere Amaraizu, the accident occurred when an articulate­d vehicle conveying a caterpilla­r had a head on collision with a 508 mini bus conveying passengers believed to be worshipers.
