Osinbajo wades into Zamfara APC crisis PDP alleges plot to disrupt elections in Rivers

VPresident Yemi Osinbajo yesterday waded into the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State in a move to mend fences among the warring parties.

Specifically, the APC in Zamfara has been characterised by dispute over the party primaries, which culminated in non-participation of the party’s candidates in governorship, national assembly and state assembly elections.

Consequently, a gubernatorial, Senator Kabiru Marafa met with Osinbajo behind closed-doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Marafa, who represents Zamfara Central Senatorial district and Chairman said, “I am here because of the logjam. The Vice President is concerned that the problem still lingers.

“He regretted that the problem has persisted because it is a family problem and he promised to do the needful. We will tap from his years of experience and wisdom.”

However, Director General, PDP Campaign Council in Rivers State, Desmond Akawor, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to violently prevent the general elections from holding in the state.

He said the party leaders had issued threats that elections will not hold in the state, but the Federal Government-controlled security agencies have turned deaf ears to the threats. Akawor made this known at a media briefing attended by Rivers former governor, Celestine Omehia, former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Austin Opara and other PDP chieftains in the State and European Union observers.
