ONCERNEDBORNO citizens yesterday canvassed support for Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume as Senate President in the 9th National Assembly billed to be inaugurated in June this year.

Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr.

Dauda Danladi who spoke on behalf of the group argued that Ndume possesses the qualities required to occupy the position of the Senate Presidency.

The group described Ndume as a loyal party man and a ranking Senator having served in the House of

Representatives in 2003 and 2007 and held the position of

a Minority Leader of the

House from 2007 - 2011, and

has been in the Senate since

2011 representing Borno

South Senatorial District with

distinction.

The group further argued

that their position was

premised North/east on geo-political the fact that zone the

where Ndume hails from gave

the President Muhammadu

Buhari the second highest

vote cast in the country.

They noted: “This is in addi

tion to the fact that the region

has been ravaged by insur- gency from 2009 until the coming of this administration in 2015. Some states being the epicenter of the crises deserve serious attention.

“The office of the President of the Senate will therefore offer the state a good opportunity to fast track reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of millions of displaced persons. It will also be apt to add that Borno State has the highest percentage of 92 per cent of votes cast for President Buhari in the just concluded 2019 election.”
