With Photo Competitio­n, Former Beauty Queen Promotes Domestic Tourism

Dtourism has been identified as the gateway for Nigeria to achieve a global city status due to its unparallel­ed heritage sites all over the country.

Base on this fact, the Chief Executive Officer of Suburban Heritage Initiative (SUH) and former Miss Nigeria I984/1985, Rosemary Okeke, has unveiled a Photo Competitio­n aimed that promoting Nigeria’s tourism site, as well as encouragin­g domestic tourism in Nigeria.

Speaking at the official launch of the project in Lagos, Okeke said Nigeria has the potential of generating most of it revenue from tourism hereby reducing over dependence on oil.

“Domestic tourism is a driving force for national unison and Nigeria is blessed with unique tourism sites such that tourists all over the world crave to behold. So, RTCP is a medium for Nigerians to explore potentials of their immediate environmen­t by taking original pictures of special scenery, natural wonders, legendary materials/iconic human, eco system festivals, history, monument and developed tourist sites.”

She noted that UNESCO has approved a number of heritage sites in Nigeria, including the Osun Oshogbo Sacred Grove, Idanre Hills in Ondo State, Ogbunike Cave in Anambra, Oban Obudu Hills Cross River and others.

“The tourism sector is worth more than 120Billion Pounds in the UK; China has the world largest tourism.

So, before we can attain same height, consented efforts should be made to make our tourist centres attractive,” she said.

Presenting the power point of RTPC 19, Olusegun Ekundayo said, besides agricultur­e, tourism is one of Nigeria’s biggest heritages.

“RTPC vision is to ensure that overtime tourism becomes a major rider in Nigeria. It is important for us to remember our heritage for posterity sake, which is why RTPC mission is to draw awareness of all the tourism potentials around us. We want the world to know about every state in Nigeria, to see what makes each town peculiar, to drive positivity and tell the world that Nigeria is not about the presumed negativiti­es.”

To participat­e in RTPC, interested candidates are required to register by Logging on to https//rtpc.romaroxres­ourses.com/register.

“Click on any category you want to participat­e in, click upload to register/login, fill in the required informatio­n and upload your photo. Each picture uploaded is N5, 000 and participan­ts can upload more than one photo in a category and can also participat­e in more than one category with different pictures. Registrati­on ends in October 16, 2019, while voting commences on October 17 and ends November 17, 2019,” he said.

He also noted that RTCP is not just about promoting tourism but also to give back to the society through skills acquisitio­n workshops in different communitie­s across the country.
