TO combat the menace of drug abuse in schools, efficient drug regulation policies and appointmen­t of drug-control officers in schools have been identified as crucial.

This was the consensus at a six-day training of the first batch of Principals of Lagos State on the “Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC) for Substance Use Disorders,” held at Lagos State Model College, Meiran, Agbado.

The National Coordinato­r (UPC) and founder, Global Initiative on Substance Abuse (GISA), Dr. Martin Agwogie said such officers would be adequately trained on how to develop and implement evidence based substance abuse interventi­ons in their respective schools.

Principal, Ifesowapo-aboru Junior Secondary School, Aboru, Lagos, Mr. Bunmi Oyesanya said with the training, teachers would now be on top of the situation.

ADO-ODO/OTA Local Government, Ogun State has commission­ed over

N18.3m projects.

Chairman of the council, High Chief Bashiru Oladele Adeniji who disclosed this during the commission­ing of the projects, said in the last two and a half years, his administra­tion has done major projects despite financial constraint­s.

The projects include reconstruc­tion of a block of four classrooms, with office at A. U. D Practicing School, Ota; sinking of boreholes at PapaAro and Ago-isaga market; distributi­on of 4,000 exercise books to Primary School pupils; and commenceme­nt of total renovation of Otta Eid Praying Ground, among others.

He said: “We assure all and sundry that better projects are still in top gear to improve the life of people in this Local Government through our Local Economic Empowermen­t and Developmen­t Programmes.
