Author Harps On Need To Pursue Dreams, Overcome Challenges

TO achieve your goal, there’s need to be determined and dogged in the pursuit of that vision irrespective of challenges, the writer, Adeola Sonola, has said.

Sonola, a trained lawyer, who practices as a commercial solicitor in the United Kingdom, was guest at the monthly reading of Department of English, University of Lagos last Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

The writer, who read from three of her books,

and said, “inspiration to write two of these books were from a dream in 2003. The dream was so vivid that I wrote it down on a paper, looked at it and said this is not a dream, it is a plot for a book and I started developing it.”

Also speaking, the Head of English Department, Prof Hope Eghagha, said the monthly readings are organised to create an avenue where writers come to read from their work and interact with students and staff.

According to him, “beyond the formal setting, students could meet with the author for further deliberations.”

He said, “it is a way of making their work known and this helps the students learn.”

The first book, is a fantasy tale, which captures the life of a young boy, Zogi. The boy defies a pronouncement by King Bantu Banujala restricting his subject from going to Hago area.

Zogi, with a taste for adventure, dreams about the vast treasures, which lie behind the Hago gate. Armed with his intuition, a magic apple and an unexplainable mystical force, he gets there and soon discovers that it is a world of shadows, destruction, devastation and strange characters.
