Baby’s Corpse Missing In Ondo Morgue

THERE was a mild drama at Ondo State Specialist Hospital (SSH), Akure, yesterday, when the corpse of a newborn was found missing in the hospital’s morgue, as relatives were set for burial of the baby and its mother.

The deceased’s family members (names withheld) almost caused crisis at the hospital premises, but management promptly intervened by reporting the matter to the police.

The guardian learnt that the newborn and his mother were brought dead to the hospital from Police Hospital, Akure on Wednesday

and their corpses were deposited at the SSH mortuary.

Sources said the newborn and its mother died during labour at the Police Hospital and their remains were immediatel­y deposited at SSH morgue. But on getting to the hospital to take the corpses for burial, yesterday, the deceased’s family only found the mother’s remains, while that of the baby was missing.

“When the deceased’s family got to the hospital mortuary to collect their remains, they only saw the mother’s body and the placenta, but they could not find the baby.
