THE Delta State Council of Traditional rulers have called for more vigilance and alertness among Nigerians to deal decisively with the heightened state of insecurity across the country.

In a 5-point communiqué issued at the end of their monthly meeting in Asaba, Chairman of the Council, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II decried the spate of killings, kidnapping and other criminalities, saying that Nigerians should adopt proactive measures to ward off any form of at

tacks by Fulani herdsmen.

Flanked by the Pere of Akugbene-mien Pere S.P Luke Kalanama Viii, the monarch charged the Federal Government to be more decisive and firm in its approach to tackling insecurity challenges.

The traditional rulers also deliberated on the activities of Presidents-general of communities saying that the council will not tolerate the usurpation of the authority of monarchs under whatever guise.

While underscoring the need for closer collaboration between the community development unions and the traditional institution in promoting peaceful co-existence and order in the society, the royal fathers said they would not condone any parallel administration in their domains

The meeting was attended by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli 1, the Orodje of Okpe, Orhue 1, the Obi of Abavo, Uche Irenuma II, and other traditional rulers across the state.

THE Vice President, Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN), Mr. James Erondu has said many of its members have been running their companies at a loss due to multiple taxation and extortion. He therefore appealed to the Lagos State government to call its tax agents to order and put an end to the extortion.

Speaking yesterday at the one-day seminar to commemorate the Global World Pest Day, organised by the Ministry of Environment and Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in collaboration with Rotimax Integrated Services Limited,

Erondu said it is the responsibility of government to create enabling environment for pest control companies to thrive, rather than extorting them.

“If government addresses the issue of multiple taxation, it would go a long way in boosting the business of our members,” he said. Speaking at the event with the theme Recognising the importance of pest management in Protecting Public Health and the Environment, Erondu asked pest control practitioners who have not registered with the association to do so to avoid embarrassment, saying the association has decided to rid the industry of quackery.

IMO State Commissioner of Police (CP), Rabiu Ladodo has denied playing partial roles in the face-off between the immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha and the incumbent, Emeka Ihedioha.

It will be recalled that a committee constituted by the governor to recover all looted government moveable assets had stormed House of Freeda, a retail outlet belonging to Okorocha’s daughter, Mrs. Uloma Rochas-nwosu and seized properties perceived to belong to the state government or purchased with looted state funds.

In a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Orlando Gidson Ikeokwu, the CP denied allegations of taking side, insisting the police is neutral.
