Waiting In Habitual Fellowship With God (4)

KENNETH Haggin while pastoring a church used to practices what he called “waiting meetings.” The congregation will spend about 30-45 minutes of worship. Thereafter, they will just sit in total silence for about 10– 20 minutes or half an hour and at times 1 hour and beyond. They will wait until God will give a revelation or a word or a vision to anybody, and that person will stand and share. As a result, God Himself was ministering to His people through his people by the act of waiting.

Are there unanswered questions in your life, family, church, community,

city, nation, etc? Those questions will likely remain unanswered until you take it upon yourself to wait and hear from the horse’s mouth.

Waiting can be a very arduous, intense, long drawn out affair. It requires the highest level of spiritual discipline. It often requires our being still and silent before the Lord for many hours, sometimes even days and weeks. It is never for the faint hearted or the impatient. In Exodus 24:15,16, we find that Moses waited on top of the mountain in total silence for six full days, it was then on the seventh day that God spoke to him.

“And Moses went up into the mountain, and a cloud covered the mount. And the Glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days, and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.” Exodus 24:15, 16. If we were the ones in Moses position, after one day, we would have gone AWOL (absent without leave-permission). I guess many may not be able to stay for one hour but I challenge you to try it. It is one of the hardest things to do. To stay before God for one full hour without moving, talking, fidgeting, etc. I assure you, the moment you sit or kneel before the Lord, all the things you have not done and are supposed to do will suddenly appear before you. Furthermore, all the prayer points you needed to tell God about will surface. Then there will be a compelling desire to drink refreshing drinks and eat certain food. Another set of voices will be asking you what are you doing here, don’t you know that this is a mere waste of time? This internal war you are going through is to tell you, you have not reached the place of being still. Your spirit, soul and body must be still.

This is why Jesus often climbed up unto high mountains to pray. This was to get away from the din, crowd, noise, hustle and bustle of everyday life. Moreover, he often went to pray very late in the night and in the early hours of the morning, while men slept. This is the required atmosphere or environment needed for effective waiting. Waiting Is The Highest Calling

Luke chapter 10 introduces us to two women and two different levels of ministry. The first is the ministry of Martha. The scriptures speak of her,

“But Martha was cumbered

with much serving.” Luke. 10:40. Martha was so involved with the work, labour and service of God that she had little or no time to sit and wait at the Master’s feet, to hear from

the Lord.

The second ministry introduced to us is the ministry of Mary… “Mary, which also sat at Jesus feet, and heard

his word” Luke10:39. Do you sit in silence at Jesus feet? Do you hear His word? Or are you a busy body having no time or ability to hear God’s voice? Listen to the conclusion of the matter on these two sisters.

“Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things. But one thing is NEEDFUL, and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from

her.” Luke 10:41, 43. Remember Saul, the first king of Israel lost the throne because he could not wait seven days for Samuel to arrive, as he was instructed. “And behold I will come down unto thee…seven days shall thou tarry till I COME TO THEE and show thee what thou shalt do.” 1 Samuel 10:8.

Many of us have lost out on our thrones because we have not been able to wait until God comes to us to give us instructions.
