No calling greater than preaching forgiveness, says VP

- By Florence Utor

VPresident Yemi Osinbajo has said that there is no assignment greater than preaching forgiveness.

He stated this at the presentation of

a biography on the General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, Rev. Felix Meduoye, on Sunday at the church’s headquarters in Yaba.

Acknowledging the cleric’s life of humility and forgiveness, Osinbajo said, “There can be no assignment greater than preaching the gospel of forgiveness, which Maduoye has done for many years, and which has impacted lives positively.”

He urged Christians to emulate the positive lifestyle of the pastor, adding, “I know what it takes to be a representative of the gospel, not necessarily in the church but outside where our role as custodians of the gospel of Jesus Christ is more pronounced.

“People will say, ‘and he is a Christian.’ There is no way you can avoid the immediate judgement of people; but we must forgive; that is the gospel.”

Chairman on the occasion, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd.), a friend of Maduoye for over 50 years, said “everyone likes a story that has no age, geographical or language barrier; yet, the beauty of a story is enhanced when it teaches life’s lessons, which Maduoye did in his book.

“Today, Maduoye has brought us here to appreciate God’s grace in his life. Not everyone is humble enough to acknowledge God’s grace in their lives; most people think it is by their intelligence, wealth or professional know-how.”

The former head of state therefore urged all to emulate the general overseer.

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, thanked Meduoye for the spiritual coverage over the people under him and the state in general.

He promised to infuse righteousness in the running of Lagos.

The book reviewer and prochancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Prof. Bamitale Omole, said the book could serve as a manual for anyone striving to succeed in life and ministry as well as for marriage counsellors.

An overwhelmed Maduoye simply thanked everyone who came to honour him.

Aof the November 16 governorship election in Bayelsa State, the number of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants to Governor Seriake Dickson’s seat has risen to 13.

Swelling the number was the former attorney general and commissioner for justice, Anthony George-ikoli, who picked his nomination form yesterday.

The barrister declared that his administration would take advantage of the state’s comparative advantage in deep sea resources to revamp its economy, if given the opportunity.

He promised to prioritise science and technology, even as he stressed the importance of recruiting well-trained teachers in the state.
