Rotaract Club of Agege donates blood at Gbagada hospital

IN a bit to reduce deaths occasioned by the shortage of blood at the hospitals, the Rotaract Club of Agege, at the weekend held its first project at Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos tagged ‘Blood Donation Drive’, which seeks to raise the awareness of how individuals can save lives and also improve their health through regular voluntary blood donation.
President of the club, Rashidat Raheem, said about 40 persons showed up for the exercise, while more than 30 were
screened and fit to donate blood to the hospital. Over 25 pints of blood were donated. She noted that relatives of patients go through a lot of hassles sometimes to source for blood for their loved ones, reason why they are encouraging citizens to be a voluntary donor.
According to her, Gbagada General Hospital was chosen because of the Renal Centre. They have most of the renal patients who are undergoing dialysis, a process of removing excess water, solutes and toxins from the blood in

people whose kidney can no longer perform this function naturally. The project was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Agege under the supervision of the club president, Rtn. Emmanuel Eneh and Rtm. Victoria Kappo as the Director of Youth Activities.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Primary Health Care, Dr. Tayo Lawal, commended the effort of the club for the gesture, just as Dr. Famuyiwa, Consultant Hematologist at Gbagada General Hospital emphasized on why blood donation is important.
