Sanwo-olu urges leaders to learn from Jakande Tinubu hails ex-governor at 90
LState Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has said that Nigerian leaders have valuable lessons to draw from the personal life and leadership qualities former governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.
He stated this yesterday in his tribute to the first civilian governor of Lagos on the occasion of his 90th birthday celebration at Havens Event Centre, GRA, Ikeja.
Sanwo-olu said Jakande’s legacy in leadership and governance remained a reference point in contemporary history, despite leaving government for more than three decades ago.
The event, which was jointly organised by Lagos government and Jakande’s family, drew dignitaries including the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; former Lagos governors, Olagunsoye Oyinlola (military), Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola; Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun; his predecessors, Ibikunle Amosun and Olusegun Osoba; Lagos deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; and Gen. Alani Akinrinade, among others.
Describing Jakande’s personal life as selfless and exemplary, Sanwo-olu said the ex-governor’s achievements became the pathway for progressive governance in the country.
To honour the former governor, Sanwo-olu announced that the state government would be naming its 496-flat Igando Garden Estate after Jakande.
On his part, Tinubu described Jakande as a “foremost progressive in Africa”.
