Group seeks justice for 13-year-old raped, impregnate­d in Bauchi

A13-year-old girl in Angwan Bakin Kasuwa, Misau local government area of Bauchi State was allegedly raped and impregnate­d by an elderly man, Mallam Babayo Malami, popularly called Tella.

This was disclosed in a petition by the Prison Inmate Developmen­t Initiative (PIDI), addressed to the state's Commission­er of Police and copied to the National Human Right Commission, demanding an immediate arrest and interrogat­ion for enticement, defilement and impregnati­on of the victim.

Executive Director of the group, Mr. Mbami Iliya Sabka, said: "We have been briefed by the victim and her mother, Hafsat Mohammed Babaji on July 19 that the victim, a JSS 1 student of Central Junior Secondary School, Misua, was defiled and impregnate­d."

According to PIDI, the victim is eight months pregnant and has not registered for antenatal, with no arrangemen­t for delivery.

Four in prison for lynching man to death

FOUR men were on Tuesday remanded in Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos State for allegedly conspiring to beat a man to death. The police arraigned Wasiu Wahab, 28; Yusuf Adebayo, 28; Ramoni Ibrahim, 28; and Yusuf Adegbite, 25, on two counts of conspiracy and murder before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate­s’ Court in Lagos.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, ordered the remand of the four men, pending an advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutio­ns. Olatunji adjourned until Aug. 26, after refusing the plea of the defendants.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 8 at Badore Jetty in Ajah, Lagos. He alleged that the defendants had conspired and beaten up Olamode Omolegbe, 22, to death during a fight.
