Five Roasted To Death In Lagos-ibadan Expressway Crash

ATotal of five people were yesterday burnt beyond recognition as a result of a fatal auto crash in Onigari area, Ogun State, on the Lagos-ibadan Expressway.

The Guardian learnt that the lone accident, which involved 18 passengers, occurred at about 8:49am, involved a while Mazda commer ci al bus with registration number WWD 302 CB, travelling from Sokoto to Lagos, but stopped briefly in Ibadan to pick other passengers. It was learnt that on its way to Lagos, it lost control at Onigari, a community bordering Ogun and Oyo State, due to excessive speeding and collided with the road median, which led to up turning of the bus whic him mediately burst into flames. Report has it that a total of 10 male adults sustained injuries, while five, comprising four male adults and one female adult, died from the crash.

Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, Clement Oladele, while commiserating with families of the victims, advised members of the public whose relatives travelled, requiring more information about the crash, to go to the FRSC Command at Km 27 Ibadan-lagos Expressway at Ogunmakin or the Olabisi Onabanjo University teaching hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, where the injured victims were are being treated.

“The corpses of those killed in the crash were also deposited at the Mortuary of the same Hospital. The recommended speed at construction area is 50km per hour. I also want to remind passengers to caution their drivers, when they notice he is driving recklessly and where the driver refuses to heed caution, the FRSC can be called on 122 to report such traffic misdemeanor,” he said.
