Lagos residents tackle Sanwo-olu on deplorable road infrastructure

LAGOSIANS have continued to decry the deplorable state of infrastructure, particularly, roads in the state, despite the campaign promises of the Babajide Sanwo-olu administration.

The Lagos State governor, during the governorship campaigns, identified 62 gridlocks in the state and promised to fix some of them that he said caused what he described as “low hanging” traffic problems within 60 days in office.

The governor has now spent over 100 days in office and Lagosians have taken to social media to bemoan the governor’s inaction.

Indeed, mixed reactions have been trailing his September 5, 2019, celebration of the first 100 days in office, as electorates doubt his capacity to fulfil his mandates.

Sanwo-olu, on assumption of office, announced an Executive Order declaring emergency on traffic management and transportation in the state. According to him, the decision has brought about significant relief to the residents, adding that the effort was swiftly complemented with speedy rehabilitation of arterial roads to reduce travel time and stress for commuters.

Replying to a tweet under Sanwo-olu’s message on state of the roads, a twitter user @Maryebere56 implored the governor to get to work, even as the governor declared that the Lagos State Public Works Department have so far rehabilitated over 150 roads across the state. One of Sanwo-olu’s reply elicited series of responses from Twitter users, who were asking the governor to state specifically the roads, because they cannot see evidence of the acclaimed “ongoing rehabilitations”. Sanwo-olu has also been accused of being negligent of the fact that most of the road constructions are done with substandard materials leading failings.

Mr. Maja @kola-maja replied: “Kindly ensure good quality of work is done. Also ensure asphalts from your yards are standard so that it can bind well to save whatever palliative is being done.

Another twitter user @Eddykingh replied: “Your Excellency sir, Ajah-badore road never suffered people this long before patching it! The traffic is now unbearable.”

While several others discarded the governor’s claims, the majority of respondents stressed the need for close supervision of projects to achieve results and called on Sanwo-olu’s administration to rise and confront the challenges facing it, and not to renege on its campaign promises.
