THE Senate has mandated its committees on finance and national planning to scrutinise the 2020-2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Fiscal Responsibility Paper (FSP) submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari and report back next Wednesday.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, while announcing an amendment to the earlier formation yesterday, said the panel was the committee on finance chaired by Solomon Olamilekan (APC: Lagos West).

The resolution followed a motion in that regard by Senate Leader Abdullahi Yahaya. tion bill was in progress. Also yesterday, the red chamber received a request from the President for the confirmation of Adeleke Moronfolu Adewolu as Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The request, which was contained in a correspondence dated August 21, 2019, was read by Lawan during plenary.

Adewolu is replacing Sunday Dare as a representative of the South West on the board of the commission. Dare is now the Minister of Youth and Sports.

Besides, the Senate has given a damning verdict on the nation’s education sector, describing graduates of tertiary institutions as unproductive.

Its chief presiding officer, Lawan, stated this in his remarks on the protracted debate over the report of the ad hoc committee on the Ninth Senate legislative agenda aimed at bettering the lot of Nigerians.

He regretted that the nation’s polytechnics, colleges of education and universities had been churning out “unemployable and unproductive” products.
