Switching On The Generational Light (1)
AND when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land. And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord, that he did for Israel. And Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being an hundred and ten years old. And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash. And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
Light has always been the symbol of awareness and knowledge, while darkness has always represented ignorance and hopelessness. The presence of light always ensure progress and an enabling environment for accomplishment while in its absence darkness reigns and ensures stagnation and absolute paralysis.
All through the journey of Israel from Egypt through the red sea God ensured his presence either by the pillar of cloud by the day and the pillar of fire by the night. While in Egypt in the Israeli settlement known as the land of Goshen, God ensured that even when there was darkness in other parts of Egypt there was always light in the land of Goshen. All these great experiences were etched on the mind of the people and guided them in their relation with God until Vs 10:
“.... all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
That was when the light went off. This was exactly what also happened in Egypt that brought Israel into slavery, when there arose “a Pharaoh that knew not Joseph.” When history is not preserved, when history is not taught and passed on, particularly the one that indicates the Essence of one’s being, the source of one’s fountain the flow of goodness cease.
And the question we ask is where are the fathers? Why did they allow a generational light out? This today is the challenge confronted by contemporary men and fathers who by negligence or conscious inaction fail to be channels of divine light who rather than shine the light to there children and better still pass on the touch have rather extinguished the light in the chambers of carelessness and non-challance.
