Rotary e-club empowers, urges care for indigent citizens ahead yuletide

THE Rotary e-club of Greater Nigeria District 9125 has called on Nigerians to extend their hands of fellowship to the less privileged as the Yuletide approaches. The call was made at an event to instal the 4th president of the club, Rotn Oluwaseun Hassan to direct the affairs of the club for the year 20192020. He took over from the immediate past president, Rotn Gbenga Abiona, at the installati­on ceremony held at Mauve 21 Ibadan. Stressing the importance of giving back to society, Hassan urged guests to rise to the aid of the less privilege in the society. He said: “This is who we are as Rotarians, we know that the more we give of ourselves, the more we are likely to receive. That is why in any of our events, we encourage people to join Rotary because it is only by joining that you may develop a heart of giving. There is no amount of humanitari­an services that is adequate. You just must do your best and put smile on the people, especially as the year-end celebratio­ns approaches. There are many indigent families who would not be able to enjoy the season, but in the spirit of the season, which is giving, it behoves on the privileged members of the society to make the less privileged ones around them happy.”

As part of the activities marking the ceremony, the club donated five self-propelled wheelchair­s, five grinding machine and two sewing machines to empower members of the community. Hassan in his acceptance speech, promised to dedicate himself to the cause of Rotary and make positive contributi­on in order to continue serving humanity. Speaking on his vision for the year, the newly installed President said some of the projects slated for the current rotary year include the donation of wheelchair­s, grinding and sewing machine to support individual­s with mobility issue and empower members of the community respective­ly. He also said the club will donate of exercise books, school uniform, sandals and bags to a primary school in Ogun State and partner Alabiamo Foundation to donate baby items to expectant and nursing mothers in Sogunro community.

The president also revealed that during the week leading to the installati­on ceremony the club took part in the Rotarian for Family Health week which took place in Odo Isan area of Lagos were the club carried out several health checks and donated mosquito nets.
