Army embarks on community service in Ondo community

AS part of its Operation Crocodile Smile IV , the Nigerian Army yesterday embarked on community service at Irele market in Irele Council of Ondo State.

The exercise carried out by the soldiers of Crocodile Smile IV Super Camp involved clearing of garbage and refuse in and around the markets as well as renovation of toilet and borehole.

Operation Crocodile Smile IV was designed to be interagency and inter-service-driven and to include the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug La w Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Customs, Immigration, and others to work harmoniously as a team to ensure peace and security in the southern part of Ondo.

The army had earlier donated some computer systems and printers generators, sta - tioneries and sporting materials to schools at Atijere community in Ilaje Council on November13 and gone on free medical outreach to the people of Ugbo community in Ilaje.

The exercise will last from November 8 to December 23, 2019.

Commander of 32 Artiller y Brigade, Brig-gen. Zakari Abubakar, during the exercise, said that the gesture was part of civil military relation activities of Operation Crocodile Smile IV.

Abubakar, who thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), LtGen. T ukur Buratai, and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Maj-gen. Anthony Omozoje, for approving and providing the fund and necessary logistics to conduct the exercise, added that it would enhance the relationship between the army and the community.

“Our COAS recognised the importance of clean environment and keyed into the Federal Government’s policy on Clean Nigeria campaign. The campaign is to ensure that public places such as schools, hospitals and mar - ket places are kept clean and have accessible toilet in their premises.”
