Kanu’s lawyer accuses police of threat to life, arson

A Sthe Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the police trade blame over murder and arson at IfiteOraifite in Ekwusigo Council of Anambra State on Monday, December 2, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has accused the police of plotting to kill him after allegedly razing his home.
Ejiofor, a Nigerian lawyer with 15 years experience, is counsel to IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in his case with the Federal
Government.
Narrating his ordeal at the hands of security operatives yesterday in Awka, the barrister maintained that no policeman or officer was killed in the melee.
His words in a statement made available to newsmen, “They took the corpses of the people they killed in my house to Onitsha/owerri expressway, burnt them and also burnt the vehicle. “On Sunday, being the first day of December 2019, about 9pm, I was called by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Oraifite Police
Station. He never passed any message to me. Then in the morning of Monday, December 2, 2019, about 6am, I got a call from my elder brother, Emeka Ejiofor, that the police led by the Area commander had invaded my premises.
“In the end, they took away the corpses of the people they killed in my house, put them in their own van to a place called Nkwo-oraifite market, along Onitsha/owerri expressway and burnt all of them in their vehicle and left.”
While calling on the
Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to intervene, he said, “My name is at stake as I speak to you, because their intention is to kill me. Nothing more. So I want this matter to be steadily investigated.”
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Oraifite, HRH Igwe Daniel Udeoji, and the President General of Oraifite Improvement Union (OIU), Sunny Igboanuzu, have condemned the violence in the town that led to destruction of property and death of two policemen drafted to restore peace in the town.
Consequently, the union has proscribed the activities of some groups and night masquerades operating in the town.
In a statement, the duo, who described Oraifite people as good and peace-loving, noted that the leadership of the town could not keep quite and allow criminal gangs, cultists and miscreants take over the town and tarnish the image of the people.
They declared that all groups proscribed by law or through the exercise by any constituted authority of government would have no place of operation in the town.
