- From Murtala Adewale, Kano

KAnostate government yesterday declared its commitment to sustaining enduring peace during the unveiling of the Kano state Community Committee held at Coronation hall, Government house, Kano. Governor Ganduje emphasized the importance of community policing in checking crime, saying no stranger can commit crime in any community without the support of residents of the community. He stressed that with the community policing architecture, which incorporated traditional, religious, and civil organizations, it would be difficult for unknown persons to commit crime in the area.

Inspector General of

Police, Mohammad Abubakar Adamu said the concept of traditional and modern policing structure gave birth to the rebranded policy of community policing. Adamu, who was represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Northwest, Abdul Dahiru Danwawu, noted that community policing was designed to ensure all relevant stakeholders are carried along in policing their various communities.

Against the geometric rise of active cases across the country, Kano is witnessing a decline with three new cases recorded in the last 24 hours. According to figures obtained on the verified twitter handle of the Kano state ministry of health @ KNSMOH; the state recorded three new cases putting overall active cases at 759. So far, 139 patients have recovered with 41 deaths. This sudden decline in active cases was against the astronomical rise witnessed in the last two weeks with Governor Ganduje attributing the decline to fast acceptance of residents to the reality of the virus.

Ganduje declared that the gradual flattening is happening because residents are now adapting to health protocols and culture of social distancing, despite the inconvenience of lockdown.
