CEHEJ Demands End To Age Limitation In Assisted Reproduction Technologies

- By Paul Adunwoke

CENTRE for Health, Equity and Justice ( CEHEJ) has asked the government to urgently end the 54- yearage limit for women seeking Assisted Reproduction Technologies ( ART) solutions, especially as contained in the “Lagos State Regulations and Guidelines for ART Practice”.

In a statement by its Executive Director; Timothy Adewale, the group noted that ART clinics in Lagos State with the expertise often deny women the opportunity to receive care because of the limiting age for women that could seek ART in Lagos State.

He said while oversight and regulations were needed to govern the practice of ART, it should not lead to rejection of women who desire to have a child in their lifetime. CEHEJ believed that once individuals or couples seeking ART are provided with sufficient information regarding their treatment, including the risk, the patient should be left to decide and agree on treatment.
