Wanted Abia COVID- 19 Patient Turns Self In With Family Members

ABIA State Informatio­n Commission­er and member of the state COVID19 Committee, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, yesterday, announced that a confirmed COVID- 19 patient, Mr. Emmanuel Ononiwu, who was declared wanted by the government for escaping from a health facility in Aba, was in a medical custody at the isolation centre in Amachara.

The Commission­er, in a statement yesterday, said: “Mr. Ononiwu reported at the Infectious Disease Hospital ( IDH), Aba, with his wife and other family members at 8.05a. m. today ( Saturday) and was taken to the Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Amachara, Umuahia, for isolation and management”.

He indicated that samples would be collected from his wife and other family members for testing, while active contact tracing has begun.

“Three patients, who are currently at the isolation centre, including the 19- year- old man from Afugiri, Umuahia, 30- year- old man from Ofeme, Umuahia and the Olokoro Umuahia returnee from Lagos, who came to plan the burial of a relation, who died in Kano, were to be released after testing negative to the virus two consecutiv­e times.”
