AMID United States ( U. S.) purported opposition to the reelection of Akinwunmi Adesina for a second term as President of the African Development Bank ( AFDB), the Industriall Global Union ( IGU) yesterday expressed support for his second term in office.

Besides, international Labour group also asked the African Union ( AU) to rally around Adesina against the U. S’s alleged plots to frustrate his second term bid at the AFDB.

Addressing a media briefing in Kaduna, Vice President of Industriall Global Union, Issac Aremu said, “We have been following the controversies around the accountability, due process and human resource allegations against the management of the Bank under Adesina.

“Accountability is one of the abiding principles trade unions cherish and demand, while struggling for the rights of workers and development Africa.”

Aremu stressed that the due diligence established by the internal auditors of the Bank gave Adesina a clean record of performance and therefore he deserved a second term in office.

“We are impressed that the Bank through its internal Office of Integrity and AntiCorruption ( PIAC), as well as its Ethics, Audit and Finance Committees reviewed the grievances of Bank’s whistle blowers,” he of added.

Commending the outcome of the committee’s investigation, Aremu noted, “After convening five meetings between February 27 and April 9, 2020, Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Takuji Yano, a Japanese, submitted a report on April 26, which concluded that the complaints against the Bank management received on January 19 were not based on any objective and solid facts and exonerated the management.
